Have you confirmed your spot in this year’s premier cooperative law learning event? Join a thriving cohort of cooperative law and public policy professionals at the 2026 Co-operative Law Summer School in stunning Pula, Croatia.

After a successful 2025 event with 21 countries represented, the International Centre for Co-operative Management at Saint Mary’s University, the International Cooperative Alliance, ICA Law Committee and IUS Cooperativum are collaborating to once again run a five-day co-op law masterclass from August 23 – 28, 2026.

This course builds links between cooperative law, Cooperative Identity (ICA, 1995), and sustainable development. How are values and principles translated into legal rules and legal practice? What types of rules are fitting, and what may cause ‘degeneration’ of cooperative enterprise? How do legal structural elements of cooperatives relate to aspects of sustainable development? This course is relevant to an international audience and can be applied to all types of cooperatives and mutuals in all sectors of the economy.

Delivery

Hagen Henrÿ, a renowned cooperative legal expert, is the primary instructor. Prof. Henrÿ held tenure as a professor at the University of Helsinki (2011- 2020); he was chief of the cooperative branch of the ILO, and he served as a legal advisor to the German federal minister of economy, among others. He has extensively consulted on cooperative policy and legislation in around 65 countries and remains a pivotal figure in numerous international organisations, including the ILO and the World Bank. He continues his engagement in the field as a visiting scholar and chairs the International Cooperative Alliance Cooperative Law Committee.

Intended Audience

Individuals with a strong interest in cooperative law, including lawyers, law students in advanced stages of study, cooperative practitioners, policymakers, regulators, and those working in the coop sector in advocacy and/or government relations.
